Young Man at Airport (after Bronzino)

Pairing:
Portrait of a Young Man with a Book by Agnolo Bronzino
Photo of a light aircraft at Johnnycake Airport in CT

Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 48" x 36"

Artist's Insights:
Q. It appears the young man is unknown in the art world but he is always described as holding a book. Does this have any significance for you?

A. As I've stated many times, my approach is more about syntax and design than about what story the image might convey. The young man's stance, his outlook and the color of his clothing were interesting to me. I was satisfied that the two images fit together well but was troubled by the empty space in the upper left corner. Then, I got the bright idea to add a parachute. The painting was not exhibited until a gallery called Artwell opened in Torrington CT and the first exhibit was titled Wings and Things. Perfect!
