Popcorn Lady (after Ingres)

Pairing:
Portrait of the Princess of Broglio by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingrès
Photo of a popcorn machine at a county fair in CT

Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 48" x 34"

Artist's Insights:
Q. She's a bit overdressed to be selling popcorn. What attracted you to these images?

A. I'm sure I was attracted to each for different reasons: First, the princess's blue satin dress with all its folds and highlights and secondly the bold red and white lines that form a stark contrast to the neoclassical genre. I can't explain how the everyday image connected with the old master in my head as I was walking the paths of our local county fair. It took a while to adjust the two images so they fit but the result was very satisfactory.

Original for sale. Print options available.
