The history of art in his DNA.

Using a flat, poster-like technique, Salvatore Gulino borrowed images principally from Old Masters, combining them with images from another artist or popular culture. His design-focused juxtapositions have a fresh, contemporary feel while paying homage to the great artists who inspired him.

Mustang (after Matisse) by Salvatore Gulino

The painting above pairs an image of a vintage Mustang with a detail from Woman in Blue by Henri Matisse.

Above, a selection from Modigliani's Jacques and Berthe Lipchitz against a backdrop of license plates.

Below, a panel from the comic strip, Bringing Up Father, by George McManus is paired with Van Gogh's Bedroom at Arles.
