Fractal (after Van Gogh)

Pairing:
L'Arlésienne, Madame Ginoux with Books by Vincent van Gogh
Image of a fractal, a geometrical shape in mathematics

Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 36" x 28"

Artist's Insights:
Q. The "psychedelic" fractal behind Madame Ginoux is a far cry from the yellow wall behind her in van Gogh's original painting. Do you think your interpretation alters the mood of the subject from the original painting?

A. I haven't given that much thought. What seems obvious to me is that, yes, there are a myriad of moods or ideas possible depending upon how a scene is re-contextualized. I like the example of a pebble thrown into still water causing ripples. Viewed in a different setting by different people, ripples may contain thoughts, impressions, memories, notions, feelings, hopes, musings, reveries etc. All of this is the playground of the viewer.

Original for sale. Print options available.
