Artist's Insights:
Q. This painting is like a burst of sunshine.
A. Yes, I think color and motion characterize this painting. The bright color of the automobile had a lot to do with my choices. Taking the cue from the blue and orange CA license plate, I thought of the Matisse painting in oranges and blues. The busy-ness of the subject's hat made it unnecessary to fill the blank space on the passenger side of the convertible and provided its own internal movement. The Mustang logo evokes movement as well!
