Artist's Insights:
Q. How did these two pairings come together?

A. My family and I spent seven months, as part of a sabbatical leave, in Florence, Italy. We were fortunate to be able to rent an apartment overlooking the Arno river. The apartment was owned by a professional couple from the Washington DC area and was stocked with National Geographic magazines from many years past.

The youth with the smiling face, and especially the round, red, vintage logo spoke to me. It was a sure match for the rose window of the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral located in the heart of the city. I was amazed that the elements fit together so perfectly. The image of the youth whose tie seems to be flying in a breeze gives movement to the painting and the bottles he is holding repeat the statues on the facade.
