Artist's Insights:
Q. If this is your studio, why is Pope Innocent X in your chair?

A. I don't really know. I was looking for a seated personage from the world of art, a man, I guess, who had some gravitas. He was well known through Velazquez who immortalized him and Francis Bacon who re-interpreted the original. Just as critics and psychoanalists are still trying to figure out Bacon's intent, I leave it to them to tell me why Pope Innocent X is sitting in my chair.
