Artist's Insights:
Q. What inspired you to put these two images together?
A. I don't know why, but I was reminded of Mickey Mouse ears every time I glanced at the van Dongen painting. I had to pursue this potential combination. Luckily Warhol provided a whole wall of Mickey images for me and they fit very well behind the lady in her red hat with red poppy. I found it interesting that the lady and the many Mickeys are looking in opposite directions. Perfect!
