Sheet Music (after Kokoschka)

Pairing:
Self Portrait by Oskar Kokoschka
Image from a page of a Beethoven rondo

Acrylic on canvas
Dimensions: 24" x 30"

Artist's Insights:
Q. I notice that this self-portrait has very many brushstrokes which you revealed you tended to avoid.

A. Yes, but I have to make an exception in this case. I actually met the artist, Oskar Kokoschka. He visited the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston where I was studying. I was impressed with how friendly and up-beat he was. My friends and I asked him why he was pointing to his chest in the painting. He told us he was wounded in wartime (WWI) in the actual spot where he was pointing.
